Brown
Eyed Girl was designed as a live aboard motorsailer suitable for
extended cruising. The parameters for the design required good
performance under sail, 14 knots top speed, and ease of sail
handling. She has a unique layout in that all sleeping areas are
private and separated from the living areas. Also she has an
inside and an outside steering station with good visibility from
both. She is available with freestanding junk rig, freestanding
'Freedom' type rig, and/or twin keels aside from what is shown. A
model was built to evaluate styling and graphics as well as for
research purposes.
The
hull is built using our New Epoxy
Wood System (N.E.W.S.) which has been so successful because of
its ease of construction, light weight, and high strength. It is
essentially a fiberglass hull and deck on the outside with a
wooden interior. There is 3/4" of foam insulation inside for
warmth and this also gives positive bouyancy, making the boat
unsinkable. There are also watertight bulkheads at the bow and
stern. The twin forward cabins are mirror images and contain a
single berth and hanging locker each. Directly aft is the head
which spans the width of the boat and has all amenities including
a stand up shower and linen lockers. Amidship is a double quarter
berth with his and her hanging lockers. There is a walk through
under the navigation center to the aft cabin or you can go up on
deck. The aft cabin has a large dinette and an efficient U shaped
galley with athwartship stove, double sinks, and large
fridge/freezer. There is access up to the pilot house which
contains a settee that can be used as a berth for night passages,
a large chart table, and helm station. The pilot house is self
draining and can be closed off from the rest of the boat. Access
to the deck is through a door in the front of the cabin. Here on
deck is the outside helm station and a bench seat with storage
under. All halyards and sheets are readily available for ease of
handling. There is also a bench seat on the aft pulpit. There are
many large windows as well as opening hatches for light and fresh
air making the interior very bright and airy. Although a boat of
good size care must be taken not to over load her as she is of
light displacement.
Easily
home built or custom built in a small shop, this boat will give
her owners many years of carefree live aboard comfort and privacy.
With her light weight she should be a real mover in light air and
heavy air. A spiritedly performer to put a smile on any sailors
face she is not to be passed over quickly as she contains many
hidden virtues.
