Chris 65 is a
proposal for a new breed of motorsailer which combines the grace,
beauty, motion, and range of a large sailing yacht with the speed
and spaciousness of a motoryacht. The open layout and large
viewing ports create a bright interior ideal for enjoying long
cruises in all types of weather. Capable of long ocean passages
while keeping to a time table when required, this vessel will take
you anywhere you want to go in style.
Although interior
layout options are endless I have shown a boat for personal use
with some ability for charter work. Forward there are three large
cabins, two with upper and lowers and one with a queen size berth,
each with hanging lockers and plenty of stowage space for personal
effects. Central is the ship's head with separate stall shower.
The semi-circular dinette has space to entertain 8 for dinner and
the galley across is efficiently laid out with all the gourmet
toys for serious cooking. The owner's cabin is aft and full width
with his and hers hanging lockers, night tables, and dressers. A
private head with full size tub is forward to port. Off the
hallway a stacking washer & dryer are tucked under the stairs.
Access onto the main deck is by separate stair wells from the
owner's cabin and the quest cabins. Forward to port a bar is
positioned above and open to the galley below. The helm has all
necessary controls, navigation and electrical panels, full size
chart table with stowage, and a hydraulically powered self tailing
winch mounted just off center to handle all sheets through sheet
stoppers. All sails are roller furling for ease of handling. The
main lounge is full width and laid out for casual entertaining. To
starboard as you come through the doors off the main deck is a
closet for coats and outdoor apparel. There are many deck hatches
for light and fresh air as well as a sun lounging pad on the
foredeck for sun tanning. Out the back sliding door is an aft deck
well protected from wind, suitable for lounging. Stairs take you
down to the swim platform for easy access to the water and the
large walk in lazarrette, for storing an endless supply of water
toys and equipment.
The hull has a six
foot draft for shallower waters and is a must for the Caribbean. I
have used twin keels and twin rudders for good sail performance
and a hull form which will allow 18 knots speed with 450 h.p.
using a single diesel with variable pitch prop. The hull will move
well under sail with a low heel angle and is easily handled from
the central helm position. All machinery is arranged to
professional standards with back up systems to provide continuous
operation.
Chris 65
represents a new breed of motorsailer that will not only perform
under sail but under power as well and still give the interior
accruements which modern sailors are seeking. If you are intrigued
by this type of vessel, give me a call.
