| Emerald City is a
proposal for a new concept in motorsailers which combines all the
finer features of large motoryachts with the romance of sailing.
The profile is similar to that of a modern yacht with the usual
interior space and accruements, yet in harmony with a full sailing
rig. She is able to perform smartly under sail and has been model
tested to power up to 20 knots with 1000 h.p. Capable of ocean
passages while keeping to a time table when required, this is a
vessel which will take you anywhere you want to go in style.
Virtually
any layout is possible to suit the owner's requirements. The
interior on the lower deck is laid out for charter or corporate
use with crew accommodation forward. There are six cabins in all,
three matched sets. The aft two have a queen size berth, his and
hers night tables, large closets, and their own private w.c. with
spa tub. The mid cabins have queen size berths, large closet
space, and share a w.c. and shower with the forward cabins. The
forward set have upper and lower berths and closets. Crew
accommodation has a cabin with uppers and lowers and a cabin with
a double berth. There is a small lounge and a w.c. with shower.
The main deck features a private dining room for twelve forward
with a central galley/bar area. A folding screen mounted on tracks
would be installed on the forward edge of the bar which could be
pulled shut to close off the galley for food preparation or
cleanup. A spacious lounge is arranged aft to take maximum
advantage of the large viewing ports. The aft deck has a whirl
pool built in, accessible through automatic opening deck hatches.
Stairs lead down and aft to the swim platform. A full width, walk
in lazarette has room for numerous water toys and necessary
equipment, as well as access to the engine room. The wheel house
contains a large circular settee, helm station, navigation
station, and charting center. Up half a flight and aft is the
outside helm station with port and starboard sun lounging pads and
ample deck space for a 16 or 18 foot dinghy as well as other small
boats.
The
sails are all roller furling with sheets handled by enclosed
captive reel winches controlled by hydraulics from the helm
stations. Because of the light displacement this sail area will
move the boat along smartly at a low angle of heel and allow it to
be easily handled by a small crew. Single or twin engines are
available with systems arranged as is befitting a vessel of this
size and complexity to provide continuous operation.
Emerald City
is a fresh new approach to produce a large sailing yacht with all
the advantages offered by the latest technology in automation,
sail handling, and comfort for the mega yacht. At 92 feet she is
only the beginning of what could be achieved in a truly large
ocean sailing vessel of this type. If you are intrigued by this
class of vessel, please give me a call.
