Freestyle 27 is a concept vessel for a new type of recreational vehicle. As a sailboat it is stable, fast, and easy for the novice to handle. As a powerboat with 70 h.p. outboard it will do 20 knots for cruising and towing skiers. On the trailer with the mast folded down it presents a low profile for ease of towing behind any mid-size car. The stern boarding ladder hinges down to form steps for access making the boat usable as a trailer when on the road. Being insulated, and containing a water tank, holding tank, sleeping and eating facilities it is ideal for summer sailing or as a trailer for camping.

Although the rig is unusual it has been used successfully on catamaran daysailers for years. The single jib is extremely efficient and very powerful. By playing the sheet the boat can easily be kept on it's feet. The bipole mast folds down with the use of the multi-purchase backstay and the roller furling jib coils on deck. The whole rig can be put up by one person and takes literally one minute. The large cockpit will sit four easily and gives plenty of room for lounging and sunbathing. Lifting keels and rudders allow a 30" rise from ground to cockpit level when on the trailer. Large plexiglass hatches both on the foredeck and as the main companionway hatch and boards, give a light and airy interior even when they are closed up. Forward, the accommodation hosts a large double berth with hanging locker and dresser. In the main cabin both settees make into berths, one single, one double. The table folds in half and then folds against the bulkhead. The galley is compact while having a fridge, propane grill and sink as well as plenty of storage space. Across the way is a stand up head with shower. Aft is another private double berth tucked under the cockpit, accessible from the galley. This allows a full complement of seven berths.

The hull is built of foam cored fiberglass for strength, light weight and insulation. The prototypes worked out extremely well and have performed to expectations.

This design can be home built or put into production very easily by a small shop. As a total recreational package this is one vehicle that can widen your horizons and really do it all.
