Aisha is designed
for live aboard comfort and extended ocean passage making. She is
not a motorsailer but uses the pilot house as an alternate
steering station protected from the sun and weather. This junk
rigged schooner is designed for ease of handling requiring only
one crew to run her at any one time. She has a performance twin keel hull form with separate
skeg rudder, moderate draft, and a traditional look. The long
flush fore deck allows plenty of lounging space and simplifies
building.
The hull is built on a unique pull together
steel sheet method which gives rounded sections both fore and aft
with only a small chine amidship, making this boat extremely easy
and fast to construct. After the skin plates are cut from patterns
and pulled together the interior stiffening and bulkheads can be
put in, and the deck put on. At this time interior finish work can
be done with the hull already closed up. This method requires a
minimum of temporary framing and neither material nor time is
wasted on work which will not be apart of the finished product.
The interior has a
double berth cabin forward with its own hanging locker and plenty
of stowage space set back behind a collision bulkhead. The head is
immediately aft and has all the amenities including a shower. The
settees in the main lounge can be used as single berths when at
sea and there is plenty of room for books behind, something you
can never get enough of. The drop leaf table folds away against
the bulkhead when not in use. The galley is U shaped and
efficiently laid out with an athwartship stove, sink, and large
fridge/freezer just across the way. Beside the fridge/freezer sits
the heater or marine fireplace. The pilot house is self draining
and can be closed off in case of flooding. There is a long settee
which can be used as a berth for night passages as well as wheel
steering and a very large navigation center with plenty of room
for chart stowage. Into the two separate aft cabins you have a
single berth and hanging locker mirror imaged, port and starboard.
There is a large lazarette for storage of gear as well as a large
forepeak. Tiller steering is provided on deck. Twin anchor rollers
are mounted on the bow for permanent stowage of an anchor.
30" high pulpits and stanchions are specified. The opening
ports are large with several opening hatches for light and fresh
air.
A minimum use of
teak for beauty and to keep costs and upkeep down is recommended.
The boat is designed with cost in mind and can easily be home
built or custom built by a small shop. She will give many happy
miles of offshore cruising for a family of four or a couple that
just plans to get away. Builder and dealer inquiries are invited.
