Lady Jane was designed as a serious offshore cruiser. She is not a motor sailer but uses the wheelhouse to advantage for cold weather sailing. Below the waterline she has a fine canoe hull with a short keel/centreboard configuration, and a separate skeg/rudder combination. She is designed for high-tech performance, hard chine aluminium construction to produce a strong light hull at reasonable cost.

On deck there is one deck box forward with a built-in dorade vent and two boxes aft for storage. Also a canister life raft is permanently mounted on the aft deck with provision for an 8'-0" dinghy to be stored on top. All halyards are readily available because of the centre cockpit design. The wheelhouse is self draining and the aft cabin can be closed off in case of flooding.

Equipment specified includes Norseman terminals on all standing rigging and lifelines, lazy-jacks and slab reefing, and a Sabb diesel with variable pitch prop. There are twin rollers mounted on the bow to allow permanent stowage of two anchors, as well as 30" high lifelines and pulpits. 148 gallons of fresh water are contained in three tanks under the sole and at the ends of the quarter berths. 60 gallons of diesel fuel in two tanks are contained under the wheelhouse.

The accommodation shows two forward berths set well back behind a collision bulkhead with another collision bulkhead at the stern. With the two quarter berths this gives four good sea berths, each with weather cloths. This keeps all the accommodation separate from the active part of the boat. In the wheelhouse there is a navigation area and a chart table which can be extended for more navigation space. The galley features an athwartship stove, garbage bin, and large separate cooler. The dinette is large with good viewing of the surrounding scenery. There are many large opening portlights and hatches including a skylight over the galley for light and to allow fumes and heat to escape.

The boat is designed with cost in mind and could be home built or custom built in a small shop. She will give many miles of happy ocean cruising for the family that chooses to live aboard or the couple that plans to get away for an extended cruise.

Plans include 6 sheets of drawings and a typewritten book of specifications.
