Elizabeth
is a 50'-6" motor catamaran for inter-Island and protected
water cruising. Although unusual as a motor yacht, power
catamarans have been used to great advantage in commercial work
and benefit from their great stability, large deck space, and
excellent maneuverability.
Her
great beam allows all accommodation to be on the main deck level.
Because of her light displacement a spacious interior is not a
luxury but a necessity, a small price to pay. The interior is laid
out in two cabins with sliding glass doors onto the aft deck, and
mirrored sliding closet doors. The owners stateroom has a private
vanity and shower. The guest cabin adjoins the ship's washroom
with separate entrance. Forward to port and starboard are sliding
doors leading onto the deck. A utility room is also shown with
washer, dryer, and linen closet. There is a deck storage locker on
the outboard side of the stack venting. The galley has a dish
washer, fridge-freezer, and stove with oven and hood venting out
the stack. The galley counter continues on into the dining room to
form the top of the table which seats four but can be extended to
seat seven. To port there is a hanging locker with lockers for
china, cutlery, or liquor. The lounge has a hide-a-bed settee and
a fireplace on a tiled floor which vents through the stack.
Forward is a wood locker, large chart table, and ships helm with
electrical panels. To port and starboard are sliding doors to the
deck. A vacuum system is piped through the boat for easy
maintenance. There is considerable upper deck space with access
from the lower deck aft, up the ladder. A 13 foot dinghy is shown
with a 20 h.p. outboard and electric boat davit. 30"
lifelines close off some of the larger openings.
The
boat is built using our New Epoxy
Wood System (N.E.W.S.) which has been so successful. It is
essentially a fiberglass hull and deck on the outside with a
beautiful wooden interior. the boat can be easily home built by
anyone with a little wood and fiberglass experience. This method
is also suitable for limited production building at a very
reasonable cost.
All
machinery is housed in the two hulls to reduce noise with access
through deck hatches. There is easy access to the engine from the
front and back with additional access to the 250 gallons of water,
150 gallons of fuel, and 7.5 kw generator. The steering is
hydraulic and controls both rudders. A four man life raft is
housed under the aft deck of each hull.
Elizabeth
would be ideal for a couple living afloat as she has abundant
living space with low running costs. She will give big ship
comfort to all those who cruise on her.
